Competency 4
These two artifacts demonstrate and fulfills competency 4 which addresses, understanding qualitative and quantitative research methods and their roles in advancing social work. In my executive brief, I explained the research and the purpose of the research over my topic, Juvenile Detention Centers and their effectiveness, I explained my findings, and concluded which practices seemed most beneficial due to my research. Along with my brief, I added the data collected and it supports my use of systematic evaluation of best interventions for treatment and prevention of JDC's and the effectiveness of the programs they offer in their facilities.
Competency 5
These two artifacts fulfill competency 5 by displaying the understanding and properly excecuting policy identification. In both assignments I completed research that not only determined the social polices, but assesed how social welfare and economic policies impacted the delivery of the service. In the first group paper, our focus was Act 1176 in Arkansas of 2005, also known as Garrett's Law; in the second, you will see the focus was Arkansas Foster Care System and Sebastian County being the focal point. Each assignment allowed me to use my critical thinking abilities, I was also able to advocate for these policies and the individuals who they may affect, this encourages and displays my part of advancing human rights and social, economic, and environmental justice.
Competency 6
I chose these two artifacts to display fulfilment of competency 6, they both show how as a social worker I am able to engage, reflect, use empathy, and show my interpersonal skills with clients. In my first interview you see the camera is on me, this was to display my ability to actively listen to my client and display my reactions for future practice. The other interview is an audio recording interview (limited audio), and I included a presentation to add the visual affect and allow the viewer to read what they may not be able to hear or understand from the audio. These two artifacts allowed me to work with two different populations, both from minoritiy groups and design engagement strategies, while also building relationships with both individuals.
